What this is

One file, .coderabbit.yaml, with one setting: CodeRabbit comments and never requests changes.

Why

The ruleset on main asks for no approving review. Even so, two pull requests whose required check had passed could not merge, because CodeRabbit's review said "changes requested":

  • "Design the issue Lifecycle: triage, Readiness, the hand-over to a pull request, and its bounds"
  • "Context for the Factory's authors: lessons, standards, decisions and the checks that hold them"

The design's rule is that a third-party reviewer informs, and gates only through the in-house reviewer; and that any feature by which a reviewer approves once its threads are resolved is switched off, in that reviewer's configuration file in the repo (docs/architecture/software-factory-design.md, §4.2). Its findings still arrive as threads.

How the setting was chosen

Read from CodeRabbit's published schema, not guessed: reviews.request_changes_workflow, a boolean, described there as approving automatically once its comments are resolved. The org's other repos set it to false in the same file.

Not verified

  • That this setting alone stops the "changes requested" review. This pull request is the test: CodeRabbit's own review of it shows the answer.
  • Whether CodeRabbit reads the file from a pull request's head or from main. If from main, the two pull requests above stay blocked until this has merged and their standing reviews are dismissed.
  • CodeAnt, cubic and the Codex connector have not blocked anything and are not configured here.

Verification

make verify passes here, and on a local merge with the branch slice-0/context-engineering, whose checks read every file in the repo.
