cmux NEXT updates: the Updated card sums up the whole update by area
The Updated card sums up the whole update by area, across every nightly the person skipped. It no longer shows the newest commit's subject as its whole headline.
What it looked like
The card said "Updated to Nightly · Oct 20" over one title. For most nightlies that title was the newest build's first summary line, which is the last commit's subject ("Enroll Computer Use after peer check"). An update that skipped five nightlies showed the newest one only.
What it does now
- The card's page gets the What's New page's read-only
cmux.changelog.list/getroute (UpdateSurfaceIsland.swift). The card loads every build after the previous version with the page's ownChangelogStore. updateSummary.tsturns those notes into at most three lines of two changes each, then "+N more":- Example lines: "Sidebar: groups made by automation take a palette color; a click never drags", "New Tab: …", "Composer: …".
- The area comes from the subject's own label (
cmux-next sidebar: …,fix(sidebar): …, viachangeAreainreadableChange.ts), else from the title's words. - Changes with no area group under New, Improved or Fixed.
- Internal work (CI, tests, autofixes, perf measurement) stays out, using the same
readableChangerules the page uses. - A build with reviewed What's New entries counts those instead of its commits.
- An update with nothing a person would notice says "Maintenance and fixes", as WRITING.md asks.
- Without the span's notes (an older host, offline, or before they load), the card groups the host's own items the same way, so it never falls back to a single headline.
- New strings:
updates.area.*(14 areas, reusing the app's existing translations of Sidebar, New Tab, Composer and the rest),updates.card.areaLabelandupdates.card.phraseJoiner, in all 21 languages. - Highlight:
release-notes/next/highlights/updated-card-sums-up-update.md. - Gallery (
pages.changelog.update-surfaces):card-span: ten real nightly-next builds fromfixtures/nightly-3913596493801-span.json.card-span-wallpaper.card-maintenance.
This is item 1 of the What's New lane, plus item 4 (skipped nightlies) for the card. The page's per-area groups, PR links, gallery frames and the reel card follow in their own PRs.
Changelog
Changed: The Updated card lists what changed since your last version by area, across every nightly you skipped.
Tests
- Red commit da6bcc7:
test/updated-card-summary.test.tsx(fleetcmux-ci run --class light --script scripts/ci/run-webviews-tests.sh --red). - Fix 267c00f: the same suite, green. Results are posted below once the fleet runs finish.
- Updated for the new layout:
updated-card-lists-changes,whats-new-no-hover-previews,whats-new-text-selection(Playwright; it now drags across the one-line Improved row).

Risk: normal (card UI and a read-only notes route; no updater, signing or socket change). The repo has no risk: labels right now, so the tier is stated here.
Committed through the GitHub git-data API while cosmic-gray's local git is frozen, which is why the commits carry no hook-added trailer beyond the hand-written Agent-Session.
This overlaps #22099 (owner e8f63fd9), which changes how the card reads items (readableUpdateItems). Whichever lands second rebases.

Summary by cubic
The Updated card now sums up the whole update by area—across every skipped nightly—instead of showing only the newest commit's subject as its headline.
Notes
- The card reads every build after the previous version via the changelog page's read-only
cmux.changelog.list/getroute, using the same provider as the What's New page (PageFactory.changelogNotes), and groups changes into up to three lines by area ("Sidebar: …", "New Tab: …"), with "+N more" for the rest. - Internal work stays out, reviewed What's New entries count instead of commits, and an update with nothing user-visible says "Maintenance and fixes". English titles are lowercased after an area label; localized ones keep their case.
- Without the span's notes (older host, offline), the card groups the host's own items the same way, so it never falls back to a single headline. New strings in all 21 languages; no updater, signing, or socket changes.
