Teach draft, review, send as the default path for mail
People who have an agent write their mail want to stay in the conversation: "draft, review, 'send it'". The agent-facing guidance now teaches that as the default path:
- save the email with
--draftoncomposeorreply; - show the person its From, To, Cc, Bcc, Subject and Body in the conversation (
hey draft show <id> --jsonreads it back); - revise it with
hey draft edit <id>as they ask; - run
hey draft send <id>when they say to send it.
Opening HEY to review is optional.
When the person asks outright for a message to go out, compose or reply without --draft still sends it in one step. The guidance describes that path but doesn't teach it as the default.
Where it changed:
skills/hey/SKILL.md§ Sending: the path leads the section. The old "add--draftto let a person review" bullet is trimmed to what a--draftanswer carries.hey draft's agent notes.hey mcp's threads blurb. That server has no send action, so its path ends with the person sending, from HEY or withhey draft send.
This is guidance only. No command refuses, delays or caps a send.
The companion change for hey-mcp-server's confirmed send_draft is on basecamp/hey-mcp-server#23.
